The Overlooked Act of Self Prayer
Did you forget to pray for you? We may often overlook ourselves when we pray. In fact, self prayer is often shortchanged as we place others before our needs. Of course, praying is indeed critical in the daily lives of Christians. Jesus taught us to pray in the Bible. In fact, Jesus prayed for us. In my post Jesus Prayed for You and Me-Oh Wow!, I shared how Jesus prayed for us, and our future children. How humbling it is knowing that our Father cared enough to protect us from future attacks as a result of following him. Because of that, we learned prayer protects, strengthens, and draws us closer to finding answers to all our needs. Jesus prayed for us; however, we miss the mark for participating in self prayer.
This post is part one in our introduction audiocast series entitled The ACTS of Prayer. As we move further into prayer, you may find this simple model a perfect tool to usher you into improving your prayers. Not only that, you can see an increase in results. Let’s begin with us.
Self prayer is fundamental in our sense of intimacy and closeness to God. When we talk to God we enter into a place where we feel safe and secure. Usually though, some find themselves covering everyone, but themselves during this time. The Bible is filled with many prayers those who made their request known to God. I encourage you to check out some of the powerful prayers found in scripture.
If you find yourself feeling selfish for praying for yourself, you are not alone. The audiocast below is a wonderful beginning your move from selfish to self-fellowship with God. It is perfectly ok to ask God for your needs. Not only that, you can find a quite place and simply talk to Him. He listens. Actually, you can specify what you really want from God. Consider Jabez. He held nothing back in his request and neighter should you.
Jabez and You
I often get many questions from believers about prayer and answered prayers. Some question the methods, and results of praying. Many suffer from what to say, while some can not seem to focus. The ACTS of Prayer is compiled of three minute empowering audiocasts. They cover self prayer, and other components of prayer that make a difference in how you pray. For instance, a prayer for prosperity is not out of line as a personal request to God. As Christians, we expect prosperity prayers will result in provisions for our personal growth, integrity, and help us build the Kingdom of God.
Jabez prayed a prosperity prayer with eloquence and humbleness in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10. You can do the same. So, open the audiocast below now to hear how self prayer is simple, as well as beautiful and seize the day.
Do you indulge in self prayer or do you shortchange yourself?
