Along with all the celebrating this year for your mother don’t forget to pray for her. Each year in May, we are reminded that mothers are to be honored. Whether she is a natural mom, spiritual mother, friendship mom, mom-by-law, or any other title you have with her, she is a mother. We honor mothers on their special day as I am sure many honor her throughout the year. For, the Bible teaches us to honor our father and mother as found in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2-3.
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
To honor is to show high respect or esteem for someone or something. Lift up your mother more this year by praying for her. Yes, you will remember her in your prayer before dining, or as you leave to travel back home, but will you give her at least five minutes or more of prayer for only her? Each year preparations are made to honor mothers. Restaurants make lots of money and flowers and gifts will soar. Churches will be filled with moms and their children, and Facebook will be flooded with photos of the grand time spent with mothers. Those are wonderful things and we should give thanks to God providing them. Yes, mothers will be honored with stories of remembrance, but some are prayed for with just a few words.
Moms carry the weight of life. She is confidant, nurse, doctor, shoulder, protector, soother, champion, nurturer-the rock. God made her special for her role in your life so she needs all the protection and care you can give her. So, as you celebrate her remember to pray for her in these often overlooked areas:
1. Her relationship with God.
2. Her salvation.
3. Her mental, physical, and emotional health.
4. Grace, mercy, and faith.
5. Inner strength, peace, and contentment.
6. Joy in the Lord.
7. Protection in her home and life.
8. God’s provisions to be made manifest.
9. YOUR mindfulness of her needs.
10. YOUR remembrance of the gift she is to you.
Hopefully these will get the fire started in your prayer for your mother. God will hear and he will answer and your days will be lengthen on the earth. Have a wonderful day with your mom and don’t forget to spend time praying for her.
